About 1/5 people suffer from Depression

We can’t take Depression as a joke. Depression is the leading cause for suicide. Depression is accompanied by low self-esteem, and the loss of interest or pleasure in normally enjoyable activities. A person suffering from Depression affects their life significantly - their general health, their relationships, their work or school life, sleeping and eating habits, the list goes on.

Depression isn’t all about sadness. Sadness is a normal reaction to disappointments and struggles. Depression is way beyond that; it’s more than just sadness. Depression isn’t just about feeling like the world is going to fall on you, it’s also about feeling lifeless. Empty. Apathetic.

Symptoms?

  • You feel withdrawn from family and friends
  • You find it difficult to concentrate
  • You think you are worthless
  • You think life is not worth living
  • You think you are a failure
  • You think everything is your fault
  • You get frustrated easily
  • You have no confidence
  • You are tired all the time
  • You get a lot of headaches and muscle pains
  • You can’t sleep (Insomnia)
  • You have a poor appetite

This is to all the people out there who can relate to any of the bolded statements. You may think you are worthless, but to your mother, to your father and to your friends, you are worth something — you are probably worth the world to them; and even more. You may think life is not worth living for, but for one person, your presence is the reason why life is worth living for. You are not a failure, you are successful. You have gone through so many obstacles in your life—so many days, so many years… yet you’re still standing firm. Nothing is your fault, and Nothing is perfect.

It’s not easy to recognise the symptoms and treat it. But at least, when you see a friend, who has been unusually quiet for a period of time, ask her/him what’s up? Don’t tell them to snap out of it, because you’re just as crazy as fuck for saying that.
